    Description

Each winner will receive 1 pair (one pair is 2 pieces of the same ammonite that was cut in half and polished) of smaller, approximately, 1 to 1 1/2 inch across  by 1/8 to 1/4 inch thick, ammonites that have been cut in half to expose the interior chambers and then polished on both sides.
Each pair will be scooped from ammonites as pictured with
most also having ammolite fire on the exterior part of the shell.
Ammolite is a name given to the iridescent opal-like play of color that is shown in these fossil specimens from Madagascar. The effect of the light passing through the various layers of aragonite and conchiolin mineralization results in the intense reds, yellow orange & green color flashes of Opal-like fire. Jewel-quality material such as this is termed "Ammolite" in the trade, and typically commands a high price
Ammonites are the fossilized remains of squid-like animals which existed from 420 million years ago till the mass extinction at the end of the Cretaceous period, 65 million years ago. It is believed that the structure of the shell was strong enough to withstand water pressures down to 500 meters.
Fantastic, as a collector's specimen, these fossils are from Madagascar; the Ammonite shell pattern is still seen today in shells of other mollusks.
