Description
This bronze auto mascot was produced by Brown Brothers Limited out of Acton London in 1911. Britannia, the lady represented has a lion at her feet. Brown Brothers commercialized this under the name "Our Empire Mascot". It was commissioned by King George V. Considering the age, the detail is fantastic. It can be seen in several mascot books, including Motoring Mascots of the World by Williams and also in Chris Jones book, British Car Mascots Catalogues. About 7" tall with the wooden base (5" without). The royals often commissioned custom car mascots for their royal autos. The royals were/are the only souls in England that may drive without license or seatbelts. Often their mascots were mounted on the center of the auto hood. This is a very rare piece. Britannia is seen here presenting the crown, shield and lion at her feet. The inscription on the base of the mascot says VIVAT REX, it translates from latin to "Long Live the King". There may have been a trident at one time.Explore the pictures and bid well. Good luck. no returns
